Connect your Instagram account

What you need, exactly what to approve, and what to do if it fails.

Details

From Accounts, click Connect Instagram. You need a Business or Creator Instagram account — a personal account can’t be connected, and you don’t need a linked Facebook Page. If your account is currently personal, switch it first: Instagram app → your profile → the menu → Settings → Account type and tools → Switch to professional account, then come back and connect.

What you’re approving

You’ll be sent to Instagram to review the permissions TRIGMAZE is asking for — reading comments and mentions on your posts, and sending/reading direct messages on your behalf. Approve all of them. Instagram lets you decline individual permissions during this step, but a partial approval means automations simply won’t work — a trigger that needs a permission you declined fails silently at send time rather than up front, so it’s much easier to approve everything now than debug a missing permission later. You’re then returned to TRIGMAZE, connected, with your @handle showing on the Accounts page.

If it doesn’t work

  • “That account isn’t a Business or Creator account.” Switch it in the Instagram app as above, then try connecting again — this check happens before anything else, so nothing partial gets created.
  • Permissions declined. Reconnect and approve every permission Instagram lists — partial approval isn’t enough, and there’s no way to grant a missing permission later without going through Connect again.
  • You get bounced back to Instagram’s login instead of TRIGMAZE. This usually means your browser blocked a redirect or you were already mid-login on Instagram in another tab — close other Instagram tabs and try Connect again from a fresh page.
  • “Instagram signed us out.” This happens later, not at first connection — see Reconnecting after your connection expires.

Connecting more than one account

You can connect more than one Instagram account to a single TRIGMAZE workspace, up to your plan’s limit, and each shows up as its own row on Accounts with its own kill switch and keyword blacklist. Read Multiple connected accounts: what works today before you rely on a second account for anything beyond automations — the live inbox and broadcasts currently only work against your first connected account, and the app tells you this directly wherever it applies.
